The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Chief Ayuba Burki Gufwan, has joined millions of Plateau indigenes at home and in the diaspora to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Plateau State, praising the state’s resilience, cultural diversity, and growing commitment to inclusivity.

In a goodwill message to mark the golden jubilee, Chief Gufwan, a proud son of Plateau State, described the anniversary as a significant milestone that reflects decades of unity, progress, and contribution to Nigeria’s national development.

Popularly known as “The Home of Peace and Tourism,” Plateau State, according to him, has steadily distinguished itself through its rich cultural heritage and harmonious coexistence amongst diverse ethnic groups. He noted that these strengths have continued to shape the state’s identity and inspire confidence in its future.

Chief Gufwan particularly commended Plateau State’s strides in promoting inclusivity and accessibility for persons with disabilities, aligning with the objectives of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Act. He urged government agencies, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, and the private sector to deepen collaboration in order to entrench disability-friendly policies and infrastructure across the state.

“As a Plateau son, I am immensely proud of our collective achievements,” he said, adding that the journey towards full inclusion remains a shared responsibility. “Together, we can make Plateau State a national model for accessibility and equal opportunities for all.”

He expressed optimism about sustained partnerships between the NCPWD and the Plateau State Government to advance the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, stressing that inclusive development benefits society as a whole.

The Executive Secretary, concluded by extending warm congratulations to the people of Plateau State, expressing hope that the next 50 years will usher in greater peace, prosperity, and landmark achievements.
