The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Osun State, has warned political parties to strictly adhere to the Electoral Act 2022 and the Commission’s guidelines as preparations heard towards 2026 party primaries in the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Agboke, through the Public Affairs Officer, Olurode Musa, stressed that only transparent, peaceful and credible primaries that reflect the will of party members will be acceptable to the Commission.

According to INEC, many pre-election litigations arise from poorly conducted and controversial party primaries, a trend the Commission insists can be curtailed if parties follow laid-down procedures.

The Commission reminded stakeholders that, in line with guidelines released by its National Headquarters, party primaries in Osun State are scheduled to hold between 24th November and 15th December, 2025.

INEC assured all registered political parties of its readiness to provide the necessary support and guidance to ensure compliance with the law, and called on security agencies and other stakeholders to work closely with the Commission to guarantee peaceful and credible exercises.

The electoral body also vowed to closely monitor party activities and take appropriate action, within the purview of the law, against any party that flouts electoral regulations.

The electoral body reaffirmed its commitment to “making your votes count” and consolidating Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2026 polls.
