The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has disowned Finland-based agitator Simon Ekpa following his sentencing for terrorism-related offences.

In a statement, IPOB stressed that Ekpa has never been a member or held any position in the movement, citing testimony given under oath in a Finnish court where Ekpa himself admitted he was only a “content creator” and had disowned IPOB.

The group reiterated its commitment to non-violence and lawful self-determination, distancing itself from Ekpa’s parallel groups and initiatives.

IPOB further urged the international community, including the EU, UN, US, UK, and Finland, not to conflate Ekpa’s case with that of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is still on trial in Nigeria.

“Ekpa bears his own cross,” IPOB emphasized, insisting that attempts to link him to the group are misleading and unfounded.
