The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has just strengthened its partnership with the Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI) to promote the rights of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.

This collaboration aims to ensure the domestication and implementation of the Disability Act across all 36 states.

The Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Hon. Ayuba Gufuwan emphasized the need for more advocacy for the rights of persons with disabilities in Nigeria during a recent meeting with VDI.

He praised VDI’s commitment to promoting inclusion and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, highlighting their successful advocacy efforts in Enugu State, which led to the adoption of the Disability Law.

The key areas of Focus for VDI includes: Promoting inclusive policies and laws,Ensuring access to healthcare services for women and girls with disabilities,Fostering accessible education for children with disabilities and Enhancing economic opportunities for persons with disabilities.

VDI is also celebrating its 10-year anniversary, marking significant milestones like contributing to the passage of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disability (Prohibition) Act in Enugu State and partnering with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS.

The NCPWD and VDI promised to continue working together to create a more inclusive society, advocating for the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
