The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has started exporting petrol, shipping out approximately 1.35 billion litres in the past 50 days, between June and July 2025.
This milestone makes Nigeria a net exporter of refined products. Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, announced this at the Global Commodity Insights Conference on West African Refined Fuel Markets.
Dangote exported about 1 million tonnes of petrol, equivalent to 1.35 billion litres.
Despite this export drive, Nigeria still relies heavily on fuel imports, with 69% of its gasoline supply coming from overseas markets.
In the last eight days alone, Nigeria imported 231.88 million litres of petrol.
Dangote faced allegations of planning to monopolise the downstream sector, which he denied, emphasising his commitment to Nigeria’s growth.
