The Presidency has clarified that President Bola Tinubu has not stopped issuing 5-year multiple-entry visas for US citizens, contrary to misinformation circulating online.

According to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Nigeria continues to grant US citizens 5-year multiple-entry non-immigrant visas in accordance with subsisting bilateral agreements and reciprocity.

Nigeria has not deviated from granting US citizens 5-year multiple-entry non-immigrant visas.

The US government’s claim of reciprocity as the reason for its current visa policy towards Nigeria does not accurately reflect the actual situation.

The 90-day single-entry visa validity period applies only to newly introduced e-visas, a short-term visa category for tourists and businesspeople.

The e-visa policy aims to boost investment, trade, and tourism in Nigeria, promoting ease of doing business for non-nationals.

Despite Nigeria’s e-visa policy for US citizens, the US has not reciprocated this gesture for Nigerians.

The Presidency emphasizes that Nigeria will continue to engage with the US authorities to address unfavorable restrictions and promote mutual respect and partnership between the two nations.
