The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receiving 110 applications from associations seeking registration as political parties ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this during the commission’s second quarterly meeting with media executives in Abuja on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
110 associations have submitted letters of intent to register noas political parties.
INEC is diligently processing the requests in line with the electoral laws and guidelines, with most applications acknowledged and six pending acknowledgement by the end of the week.
A detailed list of the associations, including their names, acronyms, addresses, and interim leadership, will be published on INEC’s official platforms for public access and transparency.
INEC is prepared to resume nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and conduct pending by-elections, with specific details to be released within 24 hours.
Primaries for the Federal Capital Territory’s six Area Councils are underway and scheduled to wrap up by June 30, 2025, covering 68 constituencies.
INEC has reminded media organizations to apply for accreditation to cover the election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
